Questions About Cuny Queens College

I want to go back to college after a 15 year hiatus!

I want to go back to college but I feel like I'm starting all over again and don't even know if I can get back in! I'm posting this anonymously because my lack of college degree deeply embarrasses me. More details about my situation inside... To make a long story semi-short, I should have graduated college in the late 90's. I had 75 credits when I left school (a combination of illness and an sexual assault drove me away.) My last three semesters at school were a wash - I went from being an A/B student to flunking all my classes because I was in deep denial about what had happened to me, and shutdown completely. (I have since dealt with this through intensive therapy.) I was lucky enough to be working while I went to college - and that job turned into a career. (For a reference point, I was a liberal arts major who now works in a computer field.) I have been steadily working since my junior year of college and have been lucky that my combination of 12 + years

What would it take to get into Columbia business school?

So I want to apply to Columbia for my MBA for fall 2012. I am wondering how good my chances are and if there are any advice/opinions you can give me. I'm a senior (now officially) at CUNY Queens college with a 3.7 gpa... will have some amazing references from professors, have some work experience including an accounting internship I will be doing next year. I have yet to take the GMAT. I went to queensborough community college before queens but didn't do so well (only got a 3.1 gpa)..would that hurt my chances? Okay, so any advice? Thanks.

Can I Break into Information Architecture at 40?

Is it realistic to become an information architect in NYC after the age of 40? I'm concerned about the bias that exists in the computer industry and the expensive cost of training for this career. I followed my spouse to NYC several years ago so that he could take a great job. I had a B.A in Psychology and my plan was to work and go to grad school here. That didn't pan out so well - my not so great school was into replacing scholarships with student loans. When they cut my loan aid in half and pushed private loans instead (for a nice kickback to themselves I presume!) I had no choice but to drop out. So now what? I have a gaping hole in my resume, a background of temp jobs (I am from an economically depressed, rural area) and truly scary student loan debt. I have decent computer skills and wondered if maybe a library science degree (Pratt or Queens College) or an online degree in Human Computer Interaction or Human Factors might be enough to enter this field.

Sunnyside Queens NY? Is this a safe area for a college student to rent an apartment??

I live in NJ. I plan on going to CUNY @ the la Guardia campus for two years before i start applying to university's. The school is in Long Island City, I noticed that Sunnyside Queens is close by and the apartments seem to be reasonably priced. What is this area like? Is it a good place for someone new to the city? Is it safe? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Suggestions on betters would be great as well. Thanks.
