Why is the copy constructor called for the statement d1=d2+d3 in C++?

I'm a beginner in C++ and the resource I'm using says that the following statement d3 = d1 + d2; calls the following:

  • The + operator
  • The default constructor
  • The copy constructor
  • Destructor
  • Assignment operator
  • Destructor

I don't understand why the copy constructor is called when the result is being assigned to a previously declared variable and why 2 constructors are called.

Operators are as follows:

date& date::operator=(const date& other)
{
cout << "Date assignment op" << endl;
    if (this!=&other){
        day=other.day;
        month=other.month;
        year=other.year;
    }
    return *this;
}

date date::operator+(const date& other) const
{
    cout << "Date Operator + called" << endl;
    date temp;
    temp.day=day+other.day;
    temp.month=month+other.month;
    temp.year=year+other.year;
    return temp;
}

Oracle Statement does not count correctly

I've got a SQL-statement with a - for me not explainable - strange behaviour. Perhaps you could find what's wrong:

When I use the statement

select count(*) from department

I got 2755 results

Using the following statement

select
      building1.street, building1.streetno, building1.plz, building1.city, dept1.buildingid
  from
      department dept1
    left join
      supporter sup
    on
      dept.supporterid = sup.id
    left join
      building building1
    on
      sup.buildingid = building1.ibuildingid
  where
      dept.usepostaladresssupporter = 1

if statement integer

i think this is a simple question, but i'm struggling with the following. in example i have the following statement (language is C):

int foobar

if (foobar)
{
// do something.
}

now, if I am correct about this, this statement is true when foobar is not zero. so it should be fairly the same as if(foobar!=0);

But what happens if foobar becomes a negative number?

switch statement and incrementation

I have the following code:

int i = 1;
int j = 0;
switch (i++)
{
case 1: j += i;
case 2: j += i;
case 3: j += i;
break;
}
printf("%d %d",i, j);

The i++ expression evaluates i to 1 since it's a post-increment operator, so the statements in case 1 will be executed, which means j is evaluated to 2. Then without breaks, the program continues to execute all the following statements. Since the value of i does not change, the value of j doesn't either. So I expect the output to be something like 2 2 but it turned out to be 2 6. Can anyone give me an explanation please, thanks!

Which of the following statements best explains the difference between the Taylor rule and the two other nonactivist rules (the constant-money growth rate rule and the predetermined-money growth rate rule)? The Taylor rule suggests how much the money supply should grow. The Taylor rule is not a derivation of the equation of exchange of money. The Taylor rule does not take into account the stability of prices. The Taylor rule does not take into account the current state of the economy. my thinking is : The Taylor rule does not take into account the stability of prices.

PHP doesn't seem to recognize this 'if then' statement

I have 2 wordpress templates, each using a different header. In each header, I give a value to my $pagekids element. For example:

<?php $pagekids = 'yes'; ?>

Then each template calls a plugin where I have the following statement:

if ($pagekids == 'yes' ) {$imageSubPath = 'bg-images';}
else {$imageSubPath = 'bg-kidimages';}

which allow the header to pick an image in a different directory (bg-images or bg-kidimages). However, this doesn't work and both templates always pick images in the same directory. But if I display the value of $pagekids on a page, it displays the correct one depending on the template.

Any idea why this isn't working? Thanks!
