Questions About National Education Services

My brother wants to join the National Guard. WTF?

My little brother just announced that he's seriously considering joining the National Guard. Help my family and I either a) discourage him, or b) make peace with his decision. He's 22 years old with no college education. For the past several years he's been bouncing around from one low-paying job to another. Albeit, he's been doing fun stuff like spending summers doing conservation work in Montana and winters working as a ski lift operator in Vermont. He's always heard a different drummer and he's very impressionable. He's been spending A LOT of time with a recruiter and a friend of his who's passionate about the National Guard. I think that a lot of their influence shows in the e-mail from him that I've copy-and-pasted below. I don't have a lot of specific knowledge about the National Guard to know whether or not the claims that he makes below are true. I don't know how to argue against what he's saying, but I'm anti-war, anti-bush, anti-violence

Student loan/ financial aid question?

Alright as I was looking at my credit report.. I sadly saw all my government student loans which gratefully don't add up to much. Anyways I saw some from Direct Loans and National Education Services which say they have been closed and sold before I even start paying on them. So my question is when I graduate (next Spring) what happens to those loans? Who has them? All I see is the rest of my loans from the past 4 semesters. I know my school changed the loan company so not quite sure if that had anything to do with it. Also what happens after I graduate? Do I get one big bill to pay off the gov loans or what happens? What also happens if I go to grad school? Just trying to get these questions out of the way. Thanks

Why do democrats believe that national healthcare will be any different than other...?

...horrendously inefficient, costly programs? AmTrak (going bankrupt for decades), the US Postal Service (going bankrupt for decades), the VA Hospital system (going bankrupt for decades), the Defense Department (remember the $600 toilets lids?), motor vehicle departments where you can spend half a day waiting and – this is my favorite example – our public “education” system which turns out students who rank near the bottom: -12/7/07 Washington Post: “The scores from the 2006 Program for International Student Assessment showed that U.S. 15-year-olds trailed their peers from many industrialized countries. The average science score of U.S. students lagged behind those in 16 of 30 countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, a Paris-based group that represents the world's richest countries. The U.S. students were further behind in math, trailing counterparts in 23 countries.” -3/9/11 AP: An estimated 82 percent of U.S. schools could be labeled as "failing" unde

How dare these ill-educated Republican bigots use the UK National Health Service to attack President Obama?

Lies, damn lies & statistics. The overwhelming majority of English/Scottish/Welsh & Northern Irish support and are proud of our health service. doinou: Freedom of speech is fine but with it comes responsibilities as well as rights and one of those is not to misrepresent the facts about our N.H.S. Jake: One right wing Conservative spouted his bile on American TV. Since then the leader of the Tories in the U.K. has condemned him and supported the N.H.S. Crusader: 7 years is a long time and thesre is certainly no nursing shortage or crisis nowadays. After years of underfunding by Conservative governments since 1997 vast amounts have been invested and the N.H.S. now provides more and better treatment for ALL people in the U.K. not just those who can afford it. Freedom 4: Thank you for taking the time to set out your points although I do think some of the source material you quote is quite suspect. Just as a rhetorical question, what are the survival rates for the 60% of poor Americans wh

So, what all has Obama done since he entered office?

I'm sick and tired of people asking "What has Obama done?" So here's a list of things he's done since he's been in office. Remember: He was elected President. He wasn't elected Jesus! The list is still growing. Let me know if I missed anything. 1. Saved the collapse of the American automotive industry by making GM restructure before bailing them out, and putting incentive money to help the industry 2. Shifted the focus of the war from Iraq to Afghanistan, and putting the emphasis on reducing terrorism where it should have been all along 3. Relaxed Anti-American tensions throughout the world 4. Signed order to close the prisoner “torture camp” at Guantanamo Bay 5. Has made the environment a national priority, and a primary source for job creation 6. Has made education a national priority by putting emphasis and money behind new ideas like charter schools, but speaking directly to school children in telling them they have to do their part. 7. Won the Nobel Peace Prize 8. $789 bil

How long to you think the rich are going to float the bill before they leave the US with their money?

Here is a list of companies that have already relocated. Everyday the list grows. Who will pay for the underprivileged when all we are is peasants waiting for the bread line to open. And dont forget, its not just the income tax from the company that we loose but also all the jobs that were lost and those taxes as well. Maybe Mccain had a point after all. Resume help for a just emerging young professional.

Resume help! How to highlight abroad working experience to break into another field. Currently teaching in China and upon my return I am hoping to focus my job search on working with the National Park Service or Fish and Wildlife maybe even NGO/non-profits focused on environmental awareness. The catch here is that I am teaching in China-- as an attempt to see if I would enjoy pursuing teaching, which I have decided its not really the field I wish to stay in. While my experience here is interesting and will prepare me for later in my career if I were to pursue a Masters in Environmental Policy or a J.D. in Environmental Law, I'm not sure if it will be easy to get into the NPS after a stint like this. Hoping that MeFis can help give me some insight and perspective on how to display this experience that will help me land a job as a park ranger or education tech positions. Questions I have are: do I list this experience on my resume? How do I explain to HR

How do I put my money where my mouth is?

This year I need to get my finances in order but what sort of professional would be able to help? I need some basic help with managing current savings, reconciling pension accounts and understanding national insurance contributions but I'd also like to understand the broader impact of possibly changing jobs and/or location, or even buying a house, in the current climate. I'd like to understand the pros and cons of available options in order to help me make decisions. It's looking like some professional advice would be the thing, but I'd really like help on general planning for my circumstances (mid-thirties, no debt, childfree) rather than the specifics of where to park investments. I've been reading up on basic financial planning but I still have a lot of questions. I think I'm really looking for some sort of counselling/education service that focusses on intermediate money management. Hivemind, does such a service exist - and if so how would I go about find
