Questions About Ray Cox

Blogging While Politicking

Jerry Brown, Mayor of Oakland, has one. Ray Cox, MN State Representative, has one. Anyone know of other good blogs written by politicians? Others I've found include John Edwards' blog (well, sort of a blog -- it's only got three postings so far and he calls it a "diary") and the blog of Sandra Gidley, Liberal Democrat MP. I'm mostly interested in blogs written by US and UK politicians. For purposes of this post I'm defining "politician" as someone currently holding elected office or expected to soon be running for office (Edwards for Prez in '08, for example).

Why isn't mayor Ray Nagin in jail for contempt of court?

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS, MAYOR RAY NAGIN ONCE AGAIN FOUND IN CONTEMPT OF COURT District Court Judge to City Attorney: Conduct "wholly unprofessional" NRA and law-abiding gun owners won yet another victory this week against New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and former police chief Warren Riley. Judge Carl J. Barbier, presiding over the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, granted NRA's motion for contempt against New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and Warren Riley for "failure to provide initial disclosures and to compel answers to discovery" during NRA's injunction against the City for their illegal gun confiscation of law-abiding citizens following Hurricane Katrina in 2006. "Once more, Mayor Ray Nagin and former police chief Warren Riley are held accountable for considering themselves above the law," said NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox. Furthermore, Judge Barbier concluded the delaying tactics by the City's attorney, Joseph Vincent DiRosa, Jr, were "wholly unprofes

Party like it's 1974?

Help us party like it's 1974! A friend is throwing a 1974 party (she was born in that year) and my partner and I would like to bring a gift to the party relevant to that year. We've already drawn up an extensive list of '74 references (see inside) but are really missing out on ideas for food and drink. It's quite likely that there will be lots of inaccuracies in this list as we created it by scouring the web. As we're based in the UK it's quite Britain-centric but I'm happy to see ideas from the USA too. The key thing is for you to suggest some popular but perhaps kitschy 1974 food and drink items. Other fads and trends are also noticeably absent and could do with a bit of filling in. The party is fancy dress so we have to pick a costume connected to the year as well! Song ideas could be good as we might make her a CD. But if you want to make any other recommendations for the list, feel free. CURRENT AFFAIRS UK Prime Minister Harold Wilson

Any (obscure) music suggestions?

I'm up for suggestions! I made a list of the music that is on my computer so you can get an idea of what I listen to. As you can tell, my music taste varies. However, I despise most of the popular bands (okay, ALL) bands of today. Also, keep in mind that I have many more artists on CD that isn't on my computer so they are not listed....so, try to be as obscure as possible. Johnny Cash fans, what do you think of Walk Hard?

I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan and I'm also a huge comedy fan. I love Will Ferell and movies like Anchorman and Ricky Bobby. But I'm not so sure the new movie coming out on Christmas - Walk Hard, is really that good. Spoofs are funny, no doubt. But this movie is a spoof on Walk the Line which I thought was a great movie about Johnny Cash's life. I even liked it more when I found out Cash and June Carter themselves had a large deal in planning things out so they were accurate information. What I don't like about the Dewey Cox story is that its making fun on two deceased men - Johnny Cash and Ray Charles. I understand it is a spoof and not to hurt anyone, but Cash was a legend and even the promotional posters for the movie mock Cash's previous posters in the '90s. I wasn't really a huge fan of Ray like I was Walk the Line but I think mocking deceased men is not a good call and not very funny. What do you think so far of this movie? Thanks.
