Questions About Renaissance Art School

How does the style taught in Florence Art schools during the Renaissance differ from Roman Art schools?

I am doing a research paper on Michelangelo and apparently there is a difference between Rome and Florence art schools. Apparently his style was greatly influenced by whether it was Florence or Roman. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help. I have tried doing research online and I cannot find any sources. So if you find any sources, it would be most appreciated! Thank you so much!

The Lost Art... a picture from 20 years ago.

ArtFilter: This is a long shot... I'm trying to find a painting that I first saw in high school in my European History class. I don't know the name or the artist, but I can describe it... It must have been post-renaissance. It was a scene of a battle, one of those kinds of paintings where the closer you get to it the more detail you see... thousands and thousands of bodies (alive and dead), horses, chariots, etc. All taking place in a big scene looking down into what could be a valley. Dramatic lighting and clouds above - lots of rays of light shining down... almost an angelic presence in the air, as well as hints of demonology. It was a picture of an epic battle. It was probably oil on canvas... Any ideas??

Looking for Classical Greece themed art

Help me look for Classical Greece themed art for Monty Python-esque animation backgrounds! I am working on an animation about the olympic gods. The characters will be drawn, but the backgrounds will be a collage of old paintings. So I'm looking for stereotypical 'ancient greek' images with temples, ruins and such. Renaissance, neoclassicism are all OK! They also must be in the public domain, which fortunately in my jurisdiction is defined just as death of author + 70 years. Technically they must be at least 1600x1200, but simple pointers for search (author names, movements, schools etc.) are appreciated! Thanks!

How do you modern "artists" consider yourselves artists?

I've only seen one or two modern art paintings or sculptures in the last ten years that were worth anything (and even then, where nothing compared to say, renaissance art). All modern art is today, is a bunch of egotistical d-bags who want to convince themselves that they are deep and talented, so they create something "abstract", and try to pretend that it has meaning no one else can understand. **** you, you're not talented, you're art is worthless, you have the ability of an 8 year old. What happened to real art? The beautiful frescoes, and gorgeous oil paintings, and astounding marble sculptures? That which required REAL talent, skill, and devotion. Art that showed the potential of human expression, not these ego driven paint spills, and slabs of steel. Why aren't there any artists who can sculpt a perfect marble human figure down to the veins, with radiating facial expressions that actually affect the viewer? Or create an oil painting that exhibits both beauty, and wonderm

Do I have too many hobbies?

Hobbies: I have too many of them! Is this really a problem? I've heard many people complain about not being able to find satisfying hobbies to occupy their free time. I think I have the opposite problem: I may have too many hobbies! Though this might seem like an enviable position to be in, I'm actually finding some significant costs to it. By the time the weekend rolls around, I find myself paralyzed with indecision, because there's just so much that I'd like to get done, and not enough time. Should I work on the code for my website redesign, or should I tend to my garden? If I try to spend some time on both, I end up not getting a whole lot done with either one, which isn't satisfying. The same holds for things that theoretically could be done at the same time, such as hiking and photography; it's impossible to devote my full attention to either one, and I end up feeling like I didn't fully enjoy either one. But then, focusing wholly on one project takes time away

The description I'm going for is probably "pre-gentrified"

Help me find the new Greenwich Village/San Francisco/artist community that hasn't been gentrified yet. Do artist communities exist now that the Internet has taken over all other forms of communication? I live in the cultural wasteland that is South Orange County, California. I would really like to move out of California. Is NYC still The Place Where Artists Must Live? Or is it past its prime? The New York Times tells me Detroit is undergoing a renaissance. I'm a photographer and writer, 23 years old. What I really need is a community, other people to talk to and make art with; a place with tons of galleries and arts events, book readings, and a general atmosphere of creativity. Somewhere that is relatively cheap to live and has job opportunities for someone with a scatter-shot job/colleges attended history. Where is the most interesting art coming from? For editors, where is the best literary work being submitted from? It can be a school since I'm looking int
