Are all those associated with the motor industry the lowest form of human life?

Each day, like lambs to the slaughter, thousands of drivers entrust their ailing vehicles to the mercy of motor-repair establishments in the certain knowledge that their trust will be betrayed at every turn. Unfortunately, with no one to turn to for protection, motorists have little choice but to yield to their tormentors. Not content with a fair and reasonable profit for their frequently inferior ministrations, the avowed intent of these worthless parasites is to extract the life's blood from each hapless victim. That they are actually permitted to act above and beyond the law defies belief. In more civilized countries they would be serving jail-time. Where does the government stand on this matter? By failing to condemn these home-wrecking spoilers of dreams, one is forced to conclude that politicians approve of their sharp practices. In my view, a thorough clean-up of the entire auto industry is long overdue.

How to buy my first car in Ontario?

I need to buy a car. I'm in Toronto. We've never had a car in Canada before. What are useful sources of information? A change in circumstances has meant I need a car for work. I have no idea about the costs of owning a car, since I've managed to do without for more than ten years. It doesn't need to be a big vehicle, but it does have to be able to handle regular trips of 250km or more in relative comfort. Due to the nature of my work, it should be as economical and low-emissions as possible. If I were in the UK, I'd probably go for a stick-shift diesel, but I realise these aren't that common here. Buy new? Used? Lease? Financing tips? How does insurance stack up? Hybrid? Diesel? Stick-shift? Is there a recovery association similar to the UK's ETA in that it lobbies for the environment, not just for the industry? Any pointers greatly appreciated.

How will the economy adjust to the coming obsolescence of the automobile as a means of mass transport?

Americans love their cars, but the supply of oil is limited and will become increasingly expensive. The current patterns of transport and settlement cannot be sustained for more than a few decades. The domestic auto makers Ford, GM and Chrysler are faltering already. Should governments shift infrastructure investments to new modes of transport before the oil runs out?. Note that roads are a public subsidy to the auto industry. (A subsidy to domestic manufactures might be justified, but a subsidy to foreign manufactures is questionable.) Would investment in rail, for example, be a better long term investment of public funds? What will happen to suburban real estate as transport costs escalate? rby9 good points about alternate energy and the relationship of population density to practicality of mass transit. Are illegals receiving better health care that veterans?

Illegal immigrants Get Better Health Care Then US Vets! Illegal immigrants depressed wages in Arizona to the tune of $1.4 billion in 2006 and dipped lower-skilled legal workers’ pay by 4.7 percent. That is according to a study by a Harvard University economist commissioned by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. The MCAO had the study done as part of its defense of the state’s new employer sanctions law. Business and Hispanic groups have challenged that law questioning its validity and arguing it would hurt the state’s economy. The study by Harvard economist George Borjas said hiring illegal immigrants depresses wages because they work for lower pay and sometimes are paid under the table. The study said illegal immigrants primarily impact wages and jobs held by legal workers with lower education levels. Borjas said that illegals make up 10 percent of all state workers and decrease all wages by 1.5 percent. Before our last election for change: As the left proclaims that there wi

What do I need to know about buying a new car? (Australia-specific)

So, despite my historical protestations to the contrary, I have found that it is no longer to function as a decent and well-rounded human being without being the owner of a car, which I can drive to the bottle shop and eventually crash and die in. I am buying a new car. I have had uniformly poor experiences with secondhand cars in the past and am not going to consider a secondhand (that is, used, like an incontinence product) car even for a moment. Not one moment! My girl and I went around some dealerships on the weekend. We hit Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, and Holden. We are going to be buying a small, environmentally-friendly vehicle, and as such looked at the Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Something (i20?), Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris (what's with the console being in the middle of the dash? fail!), and were going to look at a Holden Whatever but the salesperson was of a profoundly surly, miserable and unhelpful disposition, so too bad for the Australian car industry, I suppose

Why do democrats believe that national healthcare will be any different than other...?

AmTrak (going bankrupt for decades), the US Postal Service (going bankrupt for decades), the VA Hospital system (going bankrupt for decades), the Defense Department (remember the $600 toilets lids?), motor vehicle departments where you can spend half a day waiting and – this is my favorite example – our public “education” system which turns out students who rank near the bottom: -12/7/07 Washington Post: “The scores from the 2006 Program for International Student Assessment showed that U.S. 15-year-olds trailed their peers from many industrialized countries. The U.S. students were further behind in math, trailing counterparts in 23 countries.” -3/9/11 AP: An estimated 82 percent of U.S. schools could be labeled as "failing" unde
